Alysio de Mattos began his musical studies with his father, a violin professor, concertmaster, and a passionate collector of Italian violins and French bows.
After concluding his Bachelor's Degree in Violin Performance in Brasil, Alysio spent two years in Paris for a Specialization Degree in Violin and Chamber Music, at Ecole Normale de Musique. He spent ten years in the United States, both as a student and as a professional. Since 1996, he is the Viola Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Throughout his musical career, he's done tone adjustments on violins and violas, and well as bow rehairing. In 2006, he took bow making lessons from Richard Salaün and Christian Barthe, in Paris. Currently, he makes from 12 to 15 bows per year, following the Classic French tradition.
