Seattle violin maker David T.Van Zandt came to violin making through an early interest in music and by receiving tremendous satisfaction through working with his hands. He is a 1983 graduate of the Violin School of America in Salt Lake City and an alumnus of the New York City workshop of William L. Monical and Son. Devoting the past 3 decades to making new violins and violas, his work displays a warm and multidimensional character while adhering to traditional methods, materials and forms of the classical masters. He is a frequent collaborator with other makers at the annual Oberlin Violin Makers Workshop and is grateful to all those who have taught and inspired him throughout his career. Primarily constructing instruments intended for modern performance practice, David has a particular fondness for working with the Early Music community as well.
David’s other interests include pinhole-on-film and digital fine art photography.
