Petio Kostov is an internationally-recognized violin maker. He studied violin making in Bulgaria under Vladimir Naidenov, and later at the Chicago school of Violin Making under Tchu Ho Lee and Rebecca Elliott. After earning his degree/diploma he continued to serve an instructor at the school for three years. During his teaching tenure, his areas of focus were instrument repair and construction as well as varnishing. Petio continues to serve as the Vice President of the Board at the Chicago School of Violin Making. Before becoming a violin-maker, he studied electrical engineering, from which he gained valuable insight on acoustics. Petio Kostov is a co-founder of Classic Violins, a family-owned violin shop in Mundelein, IL.
Petio Kostov is a member of the Violin Society of America as well as the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers.
He is known for his meticulous methods and tireless, whole-hearted work ethic. In his free time Petio experiments with innovative varnish-making and varnishing methods.
