Robert Isley is a native of Wilmington, North Carolina and attended East Carolina University where he graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Music in Violin. After college he attended the Violin Making School of America in Salt Lake City, Utah graduating in 1985. Robert worked at the Amati Violin Shop of Houston, Texas and in 1987 moved to Westchester County, New York where he currently runs his own shop in Rye. In 1986, 1990 and 1992 he won Certificates of Merit for viola tone at the international competitions held by The Violin Society of America. He was a founding board member and treasurer for the New York Viola Society and is a member of the American Federation of Violin & Bow Makers.
Robert makes 4 to 6 instruments on commission a year.
