Theodore Skreko violin, 2018, Indianapolis, USA

CODE: VN~S170-2
This instrument is part of the Los Angeles Contemporary Violin & Bow Maker 2018 Exhibition & Sale.

Theodore Skreko started an apprenticeship making his first violin at the age of fourteen with Indianapolis luthier Kalon Watkins. At that point, the fascination with the violin had grown into an obsession. He went on to work at Frank’s Violins and Casa del Sol Violins before being accepted into the Violin Making School of America in 1999. After graduating from the Violin Making School of America in 2003, Theodore and fellow graduate Christopher Ulbricht opened Indianapolis Violins, a full-service violin where they focus on new violin making. Theodore has participated in several restoration and bow making workshops, and regularly attends the Oberlin College Violin Making Workshop.

Theodore Skreko finds inspiration for his work from classic Italian masters as well as from contemporary luthiers. Theodore makes his own oil varnish and prefers to make “contemporary antique” instruments with clean, crisp modern appointments. His violins are modeled after late Guarneri del Gesù, golden period Stradivari and also his own highly successful violin form. Ted’s violas are constructed on a Brescian- inspired form that he has modified to suit modern viola playing and concert/ solo use. His instruments can be heard in orchestras and on concert stages in the United States and around the globe.
