This instrument is part of the Los Angeles Contemporary Violin & Bow Maker 2018 Exhibition & Sale.
Warren Ellison learned to make stringed instruments under Tschu Ho Lee and Brian Derber at the Chicago School of Violin Making in the mid 1980’s. He graduated to work at the Tourin Musica in Vermont where he was introduced to the world of Early Music and learned to make baroque viola da gamba family instruments under Peter Tourin and Harry Grabenstein. Although the Tourin Musica formally disbanded, Warren has continued living in Jericho, Vermont and using the Musica’s wood shop for the last 25 years. He builds modern and baroque violin family instruments and a full line of viols da gamba as well as provides custom baroque parts for early music players and makers in need.
When not in the workshop, Warren can be found teaching math and physics at the local college, gardening, or enjoying life with his wife, Anna, and their three sons Matthew, Dan, and Nathan. Please visit warrenellison.com for photos and information about his instruments.
