Rosin is an essential accessory for all players. Rosin is a block or cake of tree sap you rub on the bow hair required to have it produce sound. The bow will not produce sound when drawn across the strings without rosin. Ideally, players use rosin specifically made for their instrument. Varieties are often differing levels of stickiness, and depend on the player’s tastes.
