MATERIAL: WOOD VS. CARBON FIBER/FIBERGLASS/COMPOSITE VIOLIN BOWS
Violin bows are typically made from carbon fiber, fiberglass, wood, or composite bows (carbon fiber and wood). Wood bows are historically made with pernambuco wood, but some are crafted from brazilwood or snakewood. Carbon fiber bows are a great alternative to wood bow for their consistency despite environmental and humidity changes. Composite or hybrid bows have a carbon fiber core enclosed in wood, giving it more strength while maintaining the classic look. Fiberglass violin bows are a great option for beginners or those searching for a bow that is both affordable and durable.
TOP FEATURES TO LOOK FOR IN A VIOLIN BOW
When shopping for a new violin bow, there are several factors to consider. The material, weight and balance, and the frog and grip all play a role in the bow’s performance. Selecting the ideal bow can have a profound impact on your sound and sense of ease while playing, as well as your expressiveness. While on the hunt for a new violin bow, consider the material, weight, as well as your own needs and skill levels when you make your selection.
BOW WEIGHT AND BALANCE: FINDING THE PERFECT FIT
A bow’s weight and balance are their defining features. All our bows are well-balanced, and the most refined and well-balanced bow will feel easy to use while you play. The weight and balance of the bow are perhaps the most important factors to consider. A well-balanced bow will feel light in your hand, allowing you to play with ease. A lighter bow allows for finesse and nimble work, while something weightier makes sizzly, bolder sounds.
