Mutes are an affordable, useful accessory for violists of all skill levels. Mutes rest on the bridge to reduce the bridge’s vibration and thus the volume of sound emitted by the instrument. Mutes are commonly used by players in groups or ensembles, as those pieces frequently call for muted playing from time to time. We also have practice mutes, which diminish the sound enough for someone to practice and not disturb those in the next room!
