Giovanni Varazzani violin, 2024, Cremona | Metzler Violins

Giovanni Varazzani was born in Naples in 1979. A few years later, he and his family moved to the countryside near the Po river, a few kilometers from Cremona. Giovanni obtained an artistic high school diploma with a focus in drawing and sculpture. After, Giovanni moved to London where he studied at the University of Westminster, which culminated in a degree in animation. While in school, Giovanni worked as a graphic designer for his brother, Andrea, a master luthier in Cremona.

After working a few years in the U.K., Giovanni decided to return to Cremona’s countryside. Giovanni worked full-time with his brother while attending the Cremonese school of violin making. Thanks to the teachings of his brother, Giovanni studied the ancient techniques of construction of string instruments, the knowledge of woods, materials and varnishing techniques. During these years, Giovanni absorbed Andrea’s working methods and secrets, thus continuing his training process.
