About the Instrument
The apricot varnish on this instrument is applied over a golden ground, bringing out the lively tiger flame falling gently from the centerjoint of its two-piece maple back. The scroll and ribs bear a similar tiger figure.

About the Maker
Arwed Harms is a contemporary luthier based in the town of Fivizzano, in the Tuscan region of Italy. Originally born in Germany, Harms worked in Cremona before establishing his own atelier in Fivizzano in 2020. Over his career, Harms has built roughly one-hundred instruments, often drawing upon the classic masters such as Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesù. He is notable for his particular devotion to crafting violas in a variety of models and sizes. Harms is also dedicated to developing his own varnishes. His instruments are played by soloists, quartet members, and symphonies around the world.
