France, David: Bow Exercises for the Expressive Violinist Part 2 (violin) Craddock Road

Bow Exercises for the Expressive Violinist is a series of fundamental bow studies allowing the player to acquire agility in the right hand, an even tone in all parts of the bow, and an ability to play with ease and virtuosity. The study of these exercises gives the serious student an increased palette of colors, a nuanced amplitude of dynamics, and an increased speed with which new music can be played with beauty and expression. The regular practice of bow exercises makes the musician's palette richer thereby increasing their capacity to bring joy to others. This book series is intended as a precursor to the Sevcik Bowing Books.

"I've written Bow Exercises for the Expressive Violinist as a precursor to the Sevcik bowing books. It satisfies a missing element in the etude canon allowing younger students to work on bow division and the production of a beautiful tone in all parts of the bow from the beginning. The book can also be used by more advanced students and professionals as a warm up exercise. I've developed these studies for my students over 15 years ago inspired by my study with my great teachers Sally O'Reilly and Roland and Almita Vamos and have seen great success from the exercises and now would love to share it with others. While writing the book I also realized as a Black violinist I had never used nor heard of an etude book written by a person of African Descent. While so many sectors are thinking of equity I gained even more excitement to be able to share this book with all people but especially being able to grow the contributions from string players of color to the canon of literature for the violin."
