About the Maker
Jason Starkie is a contemporary luthier based in Seattle. In 2001, Starkie began apprenticing under Robert Brewer Young at Viseltear & Young Violins. For the next decade, Starkie worked closely with Young, following him to Spain and France, before Starkie returned to the United States to open his own workshop in Seattle, Washington in 2011. In the years since, Starkie has frequently attended the Violin Society of America’s Oberlin Summer Workshop to learn from luthiers such as Joseph Curtin and Samuel Zygmuntowicz, while periodically traveling to London to visit the workshop of Stephan Peter Greiner. Starkie has been awarded the Violin Society of America’s Certificate of Merit for Cello Tone.
