About the Instrument
A spirited instrument has a particularly refined and warm lower register. This violin is modeled after an instrument by Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù from 1742. To honor the original, the luthier lovingly antiqued this modern instrument, including a craquelé on its two-piece back. The refined brown varnish highlights its narrow fiddleback flames.
Interior label reads: “Joseph Guarnerius fecit / Cremone anno 1742 / Kurt Jones 2018”
Length: 353 mm

About the Maker
Kurt Robert Jones (1965- ) is a contemporary American luthier who attended the Violin Making School of America in Salt Lake City, Utah. While a student, Jones also worked at the Peter Prier & Sons Violins shop. Upon graduation, Jones began his career with the notable luthier Rafael Carrabba at Carrabba Violins in Seattle. Two years later, in 1991, Jones created his personal atelier Kurt R. Jones Violins, Inc. and set roots in Montana. In the years since, Jones has crafted over 120 violins and 40 cellos of remarkable quality, notable for their richness in tone. He has continued to work closely with Carrabba Violins for three decades, often in restorations, recently acting as Senior Restorer for Carrabba’s restoration of the General Kyd Stradivarius cello. Jones’s atelier is now located in Honolulu, Hawaii.
