About the Maker

Camillo Mandelli “Camillo da Calco” (1873-1956) was born in Calco, Italy and studied to be a luthier under Bisiach and Antoniazzi in Milan. Camillo da Calco decamped to Buenos Aires for three decades, during which time this violin was made. He was awarded a gold medal in the Century Industry Exposition in Argentina in 1910. Camillo da Calco eventually returned to Calco in 1920, then near Milan. He often traveled to the Tyrol forests in search of excellent wood for his instruments. Throughout his career, Camillo da Calco was faithful to standard classical violin models, executing stunning varnishes on his pieces.
