About the Instrument
This violin has a gorgeous versatility that allows for a depth and maturity alongside a spirited lightness. It has a beautiful auburn varnish thoughtfully applied over a golden ground. Its strong medium curl extends in a fiddleback figure from the center joint. Similar flames run along the scroll.

About the Maker
Steven McCann is a contemporary American violin maker who has made and repaired instruments for over three decades. He has held the position of head luthier and master restorer at Guarneri House in Grand Rapids, Michigan for nearly as long. Prior to joining Guarneri House, McCann studied wtih Karl Roy and Carleen Huthins, eventually working at Bein & Fushi in Chicago. In 1981, with Noel Benson and Meng Gau, McCann took over the atelier Kschier Brothers, Inc., in Pittsburgh, then going to Guarneri House. McCann uses Italian and personal models for his stringed instruments and participates in the VSA Oberlin workshops.
