Wolfgang Schiele 2000 Munich
Clear, even, powerful
Wolfgang Schiele acquired valuable and varied experience over many years and around the world. His journeys brought him to internationally esteemed workshops: from Bodart et Dariel in Besançon, France, to Jerôme Dariel's workshop in Paris, he made his way to P. & W. Moes in New York. He later managed the workshop of the highly influential Peter Biddulph in London for two years. From 1990 onward, he opened his own studio in Munich. Schiele has made a name for himself through his research about the influence the Golden Ratio has had on the classical geometry of the violin. The historic and long-forgotten principles of the "divine proportions" are the foundation of his work, making instruments with distinctive personalities.
Schiele makes his instruments in the 17th century Cremonese tradition. The back is one piece of quarter-cut maple with lovely medium-narrow flame that slants upward from left to right. The scroll is impressively carved - the wood of the ribs and scroll match the back. The instrument is covered in a brown varnish with reddish undertones, shaded appropriately to reveal a pale ground.
The violin has a very even sound across all registers. The tone is powerful and radiant, while retaining clarity. The label reads: Wolfgang Schiele Anno: 2000.
The violin is in excellent condition.
